Governor Okpebholo reacted to the murder of Alexand Omoji, a part-time student at the University of Benin (UNIBEN), which occurred on Sunday, May 11, 2026. In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr.

Patrick Ebojel, the governor condemned the killing as a brazen and unacceptable act that affronts human dignity and poses a threat to public safety. He extended condolences to the family and friends of the deceased, noting that Omoji's life was violently and senselessly cut short.

Governor Okpebholo disclosed that an investigation has been launched into the incident, assuring residents that security agencies would work tirelessly to track down those responsible. He reaffirmed the administration's determination to eliminate cultism across the state, highlighting ongoing efforts to confront the menace through sustained security operations and collaboration with traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, and civil society organizations.
