Lagos Speaker's Allies Switch to APM Amid APC Strain

Two political associates of Lagos State Speaker Mudasiru Obasa, Hon. Ganiyu Egunjobi and House of Assembly aspirant Mr. AbdulAzeez Yusuf, known as Ninolowo, have defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM). Their decision follows unsuccessful attempts to secure the APC's ticket for House of Assembly seats in two Agege constituencies.

This defection is perceived as indicative of internal strife within the APC in Lagos. The APM is reportedly the same platform that Oyo State Governor is using to challenge President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 presidential contest, adding sensitivity to the situation for the ruling party.

Mudasiru Obasa, who has been Speaker for nine consecutive years and has been linked to Tinubu for nearly three decades, did not confirm or deny knowledge of the defections when contacted but redirected inquiries to Egunjobi and Yusuf. This development raises concerns about fractures within the Lagos APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
