Atiku Abubakar Attends Burial of Amaechi's Mother

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar arrived in Rivers State to attend the burial of Dame Ezinne Mary Oduah Amaechi, the mother of former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, who passed away at the age of 89. The funeral Mass is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Ubima, followed by interment at the Amaechi family residence.

Atiku, the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 election, is expected to be joined by Amaechi, family members, and other dignitaries. Amidst the burial preparations, there is a political controversy involving Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who is alleged to have conspired to hold a reception in Omagwa, coinciding with the burial.

The ADC claims this event could restrict access to Ubima, impacting mourners. Wike is listed as the guest of honour at the reception, scheduled for 12:00 p.m.

The timing of the two events has drawn political scrutiny due to the historical rivalry between Wike and Amaechi.
