Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed Joins Allied Peoples Movement

On Saturday, Bala Mohammed, the Governor of Bauchi State, announced his defection from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM). This decision follows a protracted leadership crisis within the PDP, exacerbated by a recent Supreme Court ruling that nullified the conduct of a parallel convention by a rival faction.

Mohammed spent the previous eight days in Abuja attempting to resolve the crisis but noted that efforts to stabilize the PDP were unsuccessful. He expressed gratitude to the PDP for providing a platform for his political growth but emphasized that his departure was driven by necessity rather than resentment.

Mohammed's move to the APM is seen as a strategic decision to ensure political continuity and electoral viability, free from legal encumbrances affecting the PDP. He has outlined steps for transitioning to the APM, including engaging with its leadership and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

APM's national chairman, Yusuf Dantal, welcomed Mohammed, highlighting the party's commitment to democratic principles.
