Court Dismisses Turaki-led PDP's Recognition Suit

On Friday, Justice Salim Ibrahim of the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed a suit filed by the Hope Tanimu Turaki-led faction of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) that sought to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognize its leadership for the upcoming 2027 general elections. The court ruled that the suit was incompetent and lacked merit, leading to its dismissal.

Justice Ibrahim stated that the plaintiffs did not have the legal standing to institute the suit and that the court lacked jurisdiction over the matter. The suit aimed to challenge the INEC's recognition of the leadership of the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led faction, which is loyal to Nyesom Wike, and sought to upload the names of the Turaki-led faction's interim National Working Committee (NWC) to the electoral commission.

This ruling follows the nullification of the PDP's national convention last year, which led to the establishment of the interim NWC.
