Court Adjourns ADC Governorship Candidacy Case to 2026

Justice Uche Agomoh of the court in Ibadan has adjourned the hearing of a suit concerning the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidacy in Oyo State to September 30, 2026. The postponement occurred after parties involved raised new applications and highlighted issues regarding the service of court processes during the session on Tuesday.

The plaintiff's counsel, Monday Mawah, stated that the case arose from the ADC governorship primary held on May 22, 2026, where Dr Gbemileke Alagbe emerged victorious among four aspirants. However, there were attempts by certain party members to replace Alagbe's name with that of a candidate who lost.

Mawah noted that the publication of Adegoke's name by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) exacerbated the dispute, forming a significant part of the plaintiff's argument. Adegoke had sought to join the suit but withdrew his application during the hearing.

The adjournment was also influenced by one party's claim of not being served with the necessary court documents.
