Defence Minister Meets Service Chiefs Over Terror Attacks

On a recent date, Defence Minister Gen Christoph Musa (rtd) held an emergency meeting with service chiefs at the Defence Headquarters in Abuja to discuss the alarming rise in terrorist attacks on military bases in the northeast region of Nigeria. Present at the meeting were Chief of Defence Staff Gen Olufemi Oluyede, Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Waidi Shaibu, Chief of Air Staff Air Marshal Sundai Anek, and Chief of Naval Staff Vice Adm Idi Abass, along with representatives from the National Intelligence Agency and security officials.

Reports indicate that at least three command officers, holding the rank of lieutenant colonel, were killed in these attacks, particularly in Borno State, where additional officers and hundreds of civilians were abducted and remain captive. The meeting was conducted behind closed doors, focusing on reviewing strategies to strengthen military operations against terrorists, despite the heavy casualties suffered by the armed forces.
