EFCC Freezes Osun Government Account Before Election

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has placed a bank account of the Osun State Government, held with First Bank, under a “Post No Debit” status just days before the August 15 governorship election. This restriction prevents any transactions, including salary payments to state workers.

Governor Ademola Adeleke expressed concerns that the EFCC was planning to freeze state accounts and those of senior officials, describing the action as an attempt to disrupt government operations. In a statement issued by Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, Adeleke argued that there was no legal justification for the EFCC's actions and maintained that the agency does not have the authority to freeze state government accounts.

A source confirmed the account freeze, stating it was no longer an allegation. As of the report's filing, the EFCC had not provided an official statement regarding the reason for the account restriction or responded to Adeleke's allegations.
