Osun Government Denies EFCC's Account Freezing Motive

The Osun State Government has dismissed allegations of ₦11 billion being diverted from its treasury, asserting that no public funds were looted. The government claims the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) froze its bank accounts on the orders of former Governor Gboyega Oyetola to prevent the payment of palliatives to workers ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

In a statement by Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, the government stated that the EFCC's actions were politically motivated and not related to corruption. It emphasized that the palliatives had already been paid to workers, aimed at alleviating the rising cost of living.

The government accused the EFCC of acting in the interest of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and described the freezing of accounts as an unlawful decision. It defended its financial management, stating that resources had been allocated to infrastructure and workers' welfare, denying any hidden funds for diversion.
