Tinubu Sacks IGP Kayode Egbetokun, Appoints Tunji Disu

President Bola Tinubu has officially sacked Kayode Egbetokun from his position as Inspector General of Police (IGP). This decision was made during a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Monday.

Egbetokun, who was appointed as the 22nd IGP on June 19, 2023, had his appointment confirmed by the Nigeria Police Council on October 31, 2023. His removal comes as he was approaching the mandatory retirement age of 60, with his retirement date set for September 4, 2024.

Following Egbetokun's dismissal, Tunji Disu has been appointed as the new Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) to take over the role. The circumstances surrounding Egbetokun's removal have been described as controversial, particularly regarding the extension of his tenure.
