El-Rufai Faces EFCC Amid Protests and Corruption Allegations

Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai arrived at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) headquarters in Abuja on a Monday, facing allegations of corruption linked to his administration. His arrival triggered protests, with supporters and opponents gathering outside the agency amid tight security.

Reports indicate that EFCC security personnel denied access to some members of El-Rufai's entourage, leading to brief chaos at the entrance. Videos circulated online showing supporters rallying for El-Rufai, while anti-El-Rufai protesters called for a thorough investigation into the former governor's alleged corrupt practices during his tenure.

The EFCC, along with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), is currently investigating corruption allegations connected to El-Rufai's administration. El-Rufai has consistently denied any wrongdoing, describing the investigations as politically motivated persecution.

His successor, Uba Sani, initiated a probe into the previous administration, which may face challenges in the Federal High Court. As of the time of reporting, the EFCC had not issued an official statement regarding El-Rufai's appearance.
