Ex-Super Eagles Star Henry Nwosu Passes Away at 62

Henry Nwosu, a former Super Eagles midfielder and member of Nigeria's historic 1980 Africa Cup of Nations winning team, died at the age of 62 in the early hours of Saturday at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital after spending several days in intensive care. His passing was confirmed by former international Segun Odegbami via an emotional message on Facebook.

Nwosu, who was born on June 14, 1963, in Imo State, was the youngest member of the victorious squad that secured Nigeria's first continental title. He made 60 appearances for Nigeria from 1980 to 1991, scoring eight goals and participating in several Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, including 1980, 1982, 1984, and 1988.

Nwosu also represented Nigeria at the 1980 Summer Olympics. At the club level, he played for teams such as New Nigeria Bank FC, ACB Lagos FC, and ASEC Mimosas.

After retiring from professional football in the early 1990s, he transitioned to coaching and player development, later serving as an assistant coach for Nigeria's national team, which won a silver medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics. In recent years, he faced health challenges, including a stroke that required ongoing medical care.
