BREAKING: FG Considers Upward Review of Political Office Holders Salaries Amid Backlash

The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) is considering an upward review of political office holders' salaries in Nigeria for the first time since 2008. RMAFC Chairman Mohammed Shehu announced this plan during a press briefing in Abuja, highlighting the disparity in earnings between political leaders and other government officials.

President Bola Tinubu currently earns a monthly salary of millions, while ministers receive less than a million, which Shehu described as a joke considering the weight of responsibilities they bear. However, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has rejected the proposal, warning that increasing politicians' salaries would worsen inequality and ignore the lavish allowances and perks they already enjoy.

RMAFC clarified that their mandate only covers salaries of political, judicial, and legislative office holders, not civil servants or public sector workers.
