RMAFC Considers Increasing Political Office Holders’, Tinubu’s ₦1.5 Million Monthly Salary

The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) is considering increasing the monthly salary of political office holders, including that of President Muhammadu Buhari and former Lagos State Governor Bola Tinubu, from the current ₦1.5 million. RMAFC Chairman Mohammed Shehu highlighted the disparity between the salaries of political office holders and the need for a reasonable living wage.

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) opposed the proposal, citing economic inequality concerns and advocating for attention to be directed towards workers facing economic challenges. Shehu also mentioned the commission's review of Nigeria's revenue allocation formula, which has remained unchanged since 1992.

The current formula allocates federally collected revenue to the Federal Government, states, local governments, and special funds. Despite past unsuccessful attempts to adjust the formula, RMAFC is committed to undertaking a fresh review.
