FG Charges Seven Alleged Coup Plotters Including Sylva

The Federal Government of Nigeria has filed 13 charges against seven individuals linked to an alleged plot to forcibly overthrow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The charges were filed by the Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, on behalf of the Federal Government.

Among the accused is former Bayelsa State Governor Timipre Sylva, who is currently absent from the proceedings. The other accused include retired Major General Moham Ibrahim Gana, retired Captain Victor Erasmu Ochegobia, retired Inspector Ahm Ibrahim, Zekeri Umoru, Bukar Kashim Goni, and Abdulkadir Sani.

The charges encompass treason, conspiracy to commit terrorism, and other offenses against national security, with actions reportedly planned for 2025 in Abuja. The charges are detailed under various sections of the Criminal Code and the Terrorism Prevention Prohibition Act of 2022, indicating serious implications for the accused.
