Charges Filed Against Timipre Sylva for Coup Plot

The Federal Government has filed a 13-count charge against six individuals, including former Bayelsa State Governor Timipre Sylva, for their alleged involvement in a coup plot against Nigeria. The charges were filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday, with the Director of Public Prosecutions, Rotimi Oyedepo, overseeing the case.

The defendants, which include Major General Ibrahim Gana, Captain Erasmus Ochegobia, and Inspector Ahm Ibrahim, face serious accusations including treason, terrorism, failure to disclose security intelligence, and money laundering linked to terrorist financing. The charges state that the defendants conspired to wage war against the state and committed offenses contrary to various sections of the Criminal Code and the Terrorism Prevention Prohibition Act of 2022.

They are scheduled to be arraigned before Justice Joyce Abdulmalik at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday.
