INEC Registers Two New Political Parties in Nigeria, Bringing Total to 21

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has registered two new political parties in Nigeria, the Democrat Leadership Alliance (DLA) and the Nigeria Democrat Congress (NDC), increasing the total number of registered parties in the country to 21. The registration process, overseen by INEC Chairman Prof.

Joash Amupitan, involved the assessment of 171 associations seeking registration as political parties. The NDC was registered following a court order in a case at the Federal High Court in Lokoja, Kogi State.

Amupitan expressed concerns about internal conflicts within political parties and urged leaders to prioritize constructive dialogue to foster unity. INEC emphasized the importance of political parties maintaining transparency and cohesion for the health of democracy.
