PDP Denies Plot to Endorse Jonathan for 2027 Election

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) issued a statement on Friday, categorically denying reports of an alleged plot to endorse former President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 elections. The party described these claims as false and unauthorized, aimed at creating confusion within the political landscape.

The statement, released by PDP's National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Moham, clarified that there is no recognized organ within the party that has approved a convention for this purpose. The reports suggested that a faction led by Tanimu Turaki had arranged a convention in Abuja to adopt Jonathan as the party's flag bearer.

However, the PDP leadership insisted that the primary elections have already concluded in accordance with the Electoral Act and the party's constitution, with Sandi Onor emerging as the party's presidential candidate. The PDP urged the public to disregard the misleading information and called on Jonathan to publicly dissociate himself from the allegations to protect the integrity of the democratic process.
