Tinubu Swears in Olatunji Disu as New IGP

On Wednesday, President Bola Tinubu officiated the swearing-in ceremony of Olatunji Disu as the substantive Inspector General of Police (IGP) at the Council Chamber of the State House in Abuja. Disu took the oath of office at 2:53 PM, following a citation read by Abiodun Oladunjoy, the State House Director of Information.

The ceremony was attended by Vice President Kashim Shettima, cabinet members, and dignitaries, with President Tinubu arriving at 2:48 PM. Disu's confirmation as IGP came after a unanimous endorsement from the Nigeria Police Council on Monday.

His appointment follows the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun on February 23, 2026, which was reportedly linked to internal disputes within the police force. President Tinubu tasked Disu with enhancing discipline, improving inter-agency collaboration, and restoring public confidence in the police.

Disu pledged to end impunity and uphold zero tolerance for corruption and human rights abuses within the force.
