Saraki, Ahmed to Stand Trial for Offa Robbery Charges

The Kwara State Government has initiated legal proceedings against former Senate President Bukola Saraki and former Governor Abdulfatai Ahmed, filing 20 counts of culpable homicide and criminal conspiracy related to the tragic 2018 Offa bank robbery. The charges will be heard in the Kwara State High Court in Ilorin, with formal arraignment scheduled for June 4, 2026.

The case follows a controversial narrative surrounding the robbery, which resulted in numerous fatalities. Ayo Akinnibosun, a primary convict already sentenced for the robbery, testified against Saraki, alleging that he was part of a political network that facilitated the crime.

Akinnibosun claimed that Yusuf Abdulwahab, Ahmed's chief of staff, provided weapons and vehicles for the operation. Saraki has consistently denied the allegations, labeling them as baseless and a politically motivated attack aimed at damaging his reputation and career in public service.
