Federal Government Clears Saraki in Offa Robbery Case

The Federal Government has cleared former Senate President Bukola Saraki of any direct involvement in the deadly Offa bank robbery that occurred on April 5, 2018, in Kwara State. This revelation comes amid renewed legal actions from the Kwara State government, which has filed fresh charges against Saraki.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), E.U. Moham, reviewed a 16-page investigative report from the Nigeria Police, concluding on June 22, 2018, that there was no direct evidence linking Saraki to the crime.

The DPP's legal advice remained unchanged in subsequent reports, stating that the police were unable to establish a prima facie case against Saraki for conspiracy, armed robbery, or culpable homicide. Instead, six individuals identified as suspects were recommended for prosecution.

The Kwara State government's decision to reopen the case has triggered political reactions, with the APC Kwara Central caucus warning Saraki to address the matter in court rather than through media campaigns.
