DPP Clears Bukola Saraki in Offa Robbery Investigation

The Federal Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) issued a legal opinion clearing Senate President Bukola Saraki of any involvement in the April 5, 2018, bank robbery in Offa, Kwara State. The first report, dated June 22, 2018, indicated that the DPP was unable to establish evidence linking Saraki to the alleged offenses.

A second report, prepared on August 23, 2018, reiterated this finding, stating there was no prima facie case against Saraki regarding criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, or culpable homicide. The DPP recommended further thorough investigations.

The reports led to the prosecution of six individuals: Ayoad Akinnibosun, Ibikunle Ogunley, Adeola Ibrahim, Salawudeen Azeez, Niyi Ogundiran, and Michael Adiukwu. Notably, Michael Adiukwu later died in police custody during the trial, where he reportedly revealed coercion to implicate Saraki, including inducements such as money and promises of visas.
