Saraki, Ahmed Face Death Penalty in Offa Robbery Charges

Bukola Saraki, the former Senate President, and Abdulfatai Ahmed, the former Governor of Kwara State, are facing culpable homicide charges in connection with the Offa robbery that occurred in April 2018. The Kwara State Government has filed 20 counts against them, which could result in the death penalty if they are convicted.

Alongside Saraki and Ahmed, Yusuf Abdulwahab and Alabi Olalekan are also included in the charges. The trial is scheduled to commence on April 9, 2026, presided over by Hon.

Justice Haleemah Salman at the Kwara State High Court in Ilorin. The charges include culpable homicide and criminal conspiracy.

The Attorney General of Kwara State, Ibrahim Sulyman, is representing the defendants. Evidence presented includes a vehicle traced to the crime scene, which was recovered from the Kwara State Government House.

Ayo Akinnibosun, a convicted suspect, confessed during the trial and was linked to Saraki's political dynasty, although Saraki denies knowing him.
