Senate Orders Arrest of CAC Registrar for Disrespect

On Thursday, during a budget defense session involving the Federal Ministry of Finance, the Nigerian Senate ordered the arrest of Hussaini Ishaq Magaji, the Registrar General of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). The Senate Committee on Finance, chaired by Senator Sani Musa, accused Magaji of consistently refusing to honor repeated invitations to appear before lawmakers.

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu raised concerns about discrepancies in the reconciliation of the Commission's revenue, prompting the committee to recommend Magaji's removal from office to President Bola Tinubu. Kalu described Magaji's actions as a pattern of non-compliance and a sign of disrespect towards the Senate, undermining the oversight responsibilities of the National Assembly.

Senator Adam Oshiomhole suggested withholding the budgetary allocation for CAC in the 2026 Appropriations Act until Magaji appears before the committee. He also proposed that the Commission should not spend its Internally Generated Revenue without prior approval from the National Assembly, indicating a potential tightening of legislative scrutiny over the agency's finances.
