Sowore Remains Detained as Court Delays Bail Ruling

Omoyele Sowore, a human rights activist and president of the African Action Congress (AAC), will continue to be detained at Kuje Correctional Centre as the Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned its ruling on his bail restoration application. Justice Moham Umar presided over the case and announced that a decision will be delivered on June 30, 2026.

Sowore's legal team, led by R.O. Adakol and including Adeyinka Olumid Fusika SAN, argued for his release, citing his clean track record and consistent court appearances.

The court's decision to keep Sowore in detention follows a controversial bail revocation on June 16, 2026, which was linked to a missed scheduled court session. The Department of State Services (DSS) is involved in the criminal case against Sowore, who has made social media posts referring to President Bola Tinubu in a critical manner.
