Tinubu Approves Up to 80% Salary Increase for Troops

President Bola Tinubu has approved a salary increase for personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces, ranging from 30% to 80%, effective September 1. This decision, announced by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, will impact around 250,000 military officers and soldiers.

Officers above the rank of Colonel, including Brigadier-Generals, Major-Generals, Lieutenant-Generals, and Generals, will receive a 30% salary increase. Personnel from the rank of Colonel down to Warrant Officer will see a 50% increase, while soldiers from Private to Staff Sergeant will benefit from the highest adjustment of 80%.

The Federal Government stated that this review will raise the annual wage bill for the Armed Forces from ₦660 billion to ₦924 billion, reflecting the administration's commitment to troop welfare. President Tinubu expressed appreciation for the sacrifices made by military personnel in addressing security threats and assured ongoing support for their welfare and modernization of the Armed Forces.
