Ndume Urges Direct Fund Transfers for Military Salary Increase

On Tuesday, Borno South Senator Ali Ndume called on President Bola Tinubu to facilitate direct transfers of funds for the Nigerian military, following the President's recent approval of a salary increase for approximately 250,000 personnel of the Nigerian Armed Forces. Ndume, a former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, stated that the salary review indicates Tinubu's commitment to addressing insecurity in Nigeria.

He noted that the expansion of military divisions from eight to twelve further reflects the President's strategic approach to combatting terrorism and banditry. Ndume expressed that the salary increment would significantly motivate military personnel, emphasizing his long-standing advocacy for better compensation for the armed forces.

However, he cautioned that improved pay alone would not suffice to defeat insurgency, urging the government to ensure the prompt supply of arms, ammunition, and other necessary logistics.
