Senators Praise Tinubu for New Armed Forces Salary Structure

Senators Ahmad Lawan, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Defence, and Abdulaziz Musa Yar’Adua, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Army, commended President Bola Tinubu for the approval of a new salary structure for the Nigerian Armed Forces. In statements made in Abuja on Tuesday, they described the initiative as a timely moral booster for military personnel.

Senator Lawan noted that the new salary structure signifies a ₦264 billion vote of confidence in the Armed Forces, increasing the annual wage bill from ₦660 billion to ₦924 billion. This change will benefit around 250,000 personnel, enhancing their morale and confidence against security threats.

Lawan highlighted specific pay rises, including an 80% increase for junior combatants and varying increases for other ranks. Senator Yar’Adua emphasized that the intervention, effective from September 1, 2026, reflects the administration's commitment to the welfare of military personnel, especially as they face challenges like banditry and terrorism.
