Tinubu Appoints Tunji Disu as Acting IGP of Police

President Bola Tinubu decorated Tunji Disu as the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) during a ceremony at the State House in Abuja at 4 PM. This appointment follows the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun, who cited family issues requiring his undivided attention.

Egbetokun's resignation was accepted by Tinubu, who expressed appreciation for his service. Disu, who was born on April 13, 1966, joined the Nigeria Police Force on May 18, 1992, and has held various leadership roles over three decades.

He holds two master's degrees and has undergone extensive professional training. His appointment allows him to serve until 2030, as the amended Police Act permits an IGP to serve a four-year tenure regardless of age.

Disu's appointment will lead to the retirement of at least nine Deputy Inspectors General of Police, with a formal handover ceremony expected at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
