Tinubu Appoints Tunji Disu as Acting IGP in Abuja

On April 13, 2026, Tunji Disu was officially decorated as the acting Inspector General of Police by President Bola Tinubu during a ceremony held at the State House in Abuja at 4 PM. The event was attended by notable figures including National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu and Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila.

Disu's appointment comes shortly after the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun, who cited personal issues requiring his full attention. Disu has steadily risen through the ranks of the Nigeria Police Force and is expected to lead the police during a critical period for national security management.

Although he is scheduled to retire at the age of 60, amendments to the police act allow the Inspector General to serve a four-year tenure, enabling Disu to remain in office until 2030.
