UEFA Boycotts FIFA Competitions Over Investment Proposal

All 55 member associations of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) have unanimously agreed to boycott FIFA competitions, including the men’s and women’s FIFA World Cup. This decision follows FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s controversial proposal to open ownership of the World Cup and other FIFA competitions to private investors.

The landmark decision was made during an emergency meeting on Thursday and marks a significant confrontation in international football governance. UEFA stated that none of its national teams would participate in FIFA competitions as long as the proposal remains under consideration, unless FIFA abandons it and provides assurances against future private ownership.

UEFA emphasized that the World Cup is a legacy built over generations and should not be treated as a commercial asset. The organization criticized FIFA for a lack of transparency and consultation regarding the proposal, describing it as a serious governance failure and a profound failure of leadership.
