Wike Sets Date to Lift Rivers Emergency Rule - Peaceful Election Marks Progress

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, announced that the emergency rule imposed on Rivers State will be lifted on September 18, 2025. Wike made the declaration while overseeing a local government election that was largely peaceful.

The poll was conducted by the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) under the supervision of a Sole Administrator, following the suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The heavy security presence around the RSIEC headquarters in Port Harcourt aimed to ensure a smooth electoral process.

The lifting of the emergency rule comes after heightened political tensions in Rivers State earlier in the year.
