Nigeria Advocates UN Reform at 18th BRICS Summit

At the 18th BRICS Summit held in New Delhi, India, President Bola Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, advocated for the reform of the United Nations Security Council and the international financial system. He stated that Nigeria supports a more representative, equitable, and responsive global governance architecture.

The summit, themed ‘Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability,’ was chaired by India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Tinubu emphasized that the summit's theme reflects the challenges faced by developing countries and highlighted Nigeria's partnership with BRICS.

He called for a shift from dialogue to actionable outcomes, promoting cooperation in sectors such as energy, infrastructure, and agriculture. Tinubu also invited BRICS nations to view Nigeria as a gateway to Africa's market, particularly in relation to the African Continental Free Trade Area’s digital trade protocol.

His administration's Renewed Hope Agenda aims to build a resilient economy through reforms that enhance macroeconomic stability and attract private sector investment.
