Nigeria Strengthens Ties at BRICS Summit in India

Nigeria is set to deepen its bilateral relations and economic cooperation at the 18th BRICS Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi, India, scheduled for this weekend. Vice President Kashim Shettima will represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the summit, which aims to enhance partnerships in various sectors including trade, investment, energy, agriculture, solid minerals, technology, and innovation.

The summit, themed “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability,” will cover political, security, economic, and cultural cooperation. VP Shettima will participate in plenary and high-level sessions and engage in bilateral discussions with leaders from BRICS member and partner nations.

Nigeria has been a BRICS partner country since January 2025, and its participation aligns with President Tinubu’s strategy to strengthen international economic partnerships and attract investment, particularly in agriculture, energy, and non-oil sectors. The summit also marks the 20th anniversary of BRICS and its commitment to enhancing cooperation among its expanding network of countries.
