BRICS Scientists Advocate for Arctic Research Collaboration

Young scientists from BRICS countries convened at the International Scientific and Practical Conference in Russia, advocating for stronger collaboration in Arctic research, sustainable tourism, and the preservation of Indigenous cultures. The conference was organized by the Russian-Asian Arctic Research Consortium, with support from the Russia-BRICS Project Office for International Youth Cooperation.

Key participants included Roman Kuchin, Co-Chairman of the consortium and Rector of Ugra State University, who emphasized the importance of preserving Indigenous cultures in Russia’s Arctic regions. Aleksander Novyukhov, Senator and President of the Association of Indigenous Peoples of the North, Siberia and the Far East of the Russian Federation, discussed the “IT Nomadic Camp” project aimed at enhancing education and cultural participation in remote communities.

The conference also featured the “DobroArktika” tourism competition, showcasing projects that promote ecological and ethnographic tourism, including the “CHUMbuilding” initiative, which allows visitors to engage with Indigenous traditions.
