Tinubu Advocates Global Governance Reform at BRICS Summit

At the 2026 BRICS Summit held in New Delhi, India, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, advocated for an overhaul of the global governance system. He emphasized that global institutions should be more representative, equitable, and responsive to current economic and demographic realities.

Tinubu expressed Nigeria's support for reforming the UN Security Council and the international financial system, asserting that the transformation led by BRICS should extend to the broader international system. He highlighted that BRICS amplifies the voice of the Global South and aligns with Nigeria's call for institutions reflecting contemporary realities.

Tinubu urged BRICS nations to transition from dialogue to actionable outcomes and invited investors to explore opportunities in Nigeria, which he described as a gateway to Africa's market under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). He called for enhanced cooperation in various sectors, including technology, agriculture, and healthcare, stressing the importance of technology ownership for national progress.
