Tinubu Calls for BRICS Reform at 2026 Summit

At the 2026 BRICS Summit in New Delhi, India, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by Vice-President Kashim Shettima, called for a significant overhaul of global governance structures and international financial institutions. He emphasized the need for these institutions to be more representative and responsive to current economic and demographic realities.

Tinubu stated that Nigeria supports reforms in the United Nations Security Council and the international financial system, aligning with BRICS' mission to amplify the voice of the Global South. He urged BRICS to transition from declarations to actionable outcomes and invited investors from BRICS countries to explore Nigeria's investment opportunities, positioning the nation as a strategic gateway to Africa's market under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Tinubu linked Nigeria's economic resilience to his administration's Renewed Hope Agenda, focusing on macroeconomic stability, infrastructure expansion, and climate resilience. He also highlighted the potential of Nigeria's youthful population in driving innovation and economic growth.
