Funmi Bucknor Plans African Opera After Global Melodies

Funmi Bucknor, a lyric soprano and creative artist, has announced her intention to stage an African opera next year following her successful concert, Global Melodies, held at the Alliance Française, Mike Adenuga Centre in Lagos. The concert showcased a blend of opera, classical music, jazz, and indigenous Nigerian songs, featuring performances in multiple languages, including German, Italian, Czech, and Yoruba.

After the concert, Bucknor reflected on her journey since her debut concert in 2012, emphasizing the importance of timing and preparation in her artistic endeavors. During the event, Ronaldo Vieira, the Brazilian Consul General in Lagos, proposed a cultural partnership, suggesting the inclusion of Afro-Brazilian Yoruba music in the next edition of Global Melodies.

He highlighted Brazil's historical ties to Yoruba culture and expressed a desire for collaboration with Brazilian musicians and researchers. Bucknor accepted the proposal enthusiastically, indicating her commitment to expanding her artistic projects.
