Wike Orders Arrest After Hotel Collapse in FCT

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has ordered the immediate arrest of the owner of a hotel whose multi-story building collapsed. During a site visit on Monday, Wike revealed that the building was constructed without the necessary approvals from the FCT Department of Development Control.

He noted that the developer ignored repeated stop-work notices issued by the authorities, which ultimately led to the collapse. Fortunately, no deaths were reported, although some individuals sustained injuries and required hospital treatment.

Wike emphasized that the situation worsened as the collapse occurred during a busier time. He announced that the FCT administration would reclaim the land for public projects and prosecute anyone involved in illegal construction.

Wike called for developers to adhere to building regulations and obtain the necessary approvals, ensuring proper oversight and the use of safe materials. He directed relevant agencies to strengthen enforcement, including demolishing structures built without authorization to prevent future incidents.
