BPP Warns MDAs Against Purchasing from Unregistered Suppliers

The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), under the leadership of Director-General Dr Adebowale Adesanya, has issued a warning to government agencies regarding the procurement of vehicles from suppliers, manufacturers, and importers not registered with the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC). This warning was made during a joint news conference in Abuja.
Adesanya stated that BPP will not provide a no objection to any procurement from unregistered entities, labeling such actions as criminal offenses subject to prosecution. The NADDC is tasked with registering vehicle manufacturers and maintaining an approved supplier database, while BPP ensures compliance with public procurement regulations.
The initiative is part of the Federal Government’s Nigeria First policy, which encourages partnerships between local firms and foreign manufacturers to enhance domestic production and technology transfer. The Public Procurement Act 2007 favors locally manufactured products, even if they are slightly more expensive than imports.
Additionally, the Bank of Industry will provide financing to the automotive sector at lower interest rates, and a monitoring committee has been established to oversee procurement compliance.
