BPP Launches Digital Reform for Nigeria's Procurement System

The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) has initiated a comprehensive reform program aimed at modernizing Nigeria's public procurement system through digitalization, enhanced compliance, and strategic government spending to foster national development. Dr. Adebowale Adedokun, the Director-General of the BPP, announced this initiative on Thursday during the 2026 BAVCCA/BPP Procurement Performance Conference in Abuja, where he was represented by Nasir Bello, the Director of Civil Infrastructure.

Adedokun described public procurement as a vital tool for economic growth and infrastructure development, stating that effective procurement directly impacts the quality of development and citizens' lives. A key component of the reform is the introduction of an electronic government procurement system to automate procurement processes, thereby improving monitoring and data reliability.

Adedokun also highlighted the Nigeria First policy, advocating for public spending to support local industries and job creation. He called for greater professionalization in procurement practices and wider access for underrepresented groups, while participants discussed challenges and the need for measurable improvements in transparency and accountability.
