BPP's Adedokun Calls for CSO Monitoring of Public Projects

Adebowale Adedokun, the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), called on Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to actively monitor public projects throughout their lifecycle, from procurement planning and contract award to implementation and service delivery. This appeal was made during the BPP-CSO Engagement held in Abuja.
Adedokun emphasized the critical role of CSOs in promoting transparency, accountability, and citizen participation in Nigeria’s public procurement system. He urged CSOs to assess not only the correctness of contract awards but also the actual benefits delivered to the public, such as the completion of hospitals, delivery of equipment, functionality of roads, and provision of potable water.
To facilitate this, the BPP is proposing a structured Public Procurement Partnership Framework aimed at enhancing collaboration with CSOs, focusing on capacity building and access to procurement data. Adedokun also stressed the importance of CSOs maintaining their independence while engaging with government institutions and ensuring their criticisms are evidence-based.
