By-Election: INEC Confirms LP’s Bright Ngene Winner Of Enugu Rerun Despite Jail Term

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed Bright Ngene of the Labour Party as the winner of the Enugu rerun by-election, despite his ongoing jail term. The by-election, held on August 16, 2025, was the fourth attempt after the 2023 election was nullified in eight polling units.

Ngene defeated Sam Ngene of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the rerun. INEC spokesperson, Olumekun, announced that Ngene would be presented with his certificate of return on August 21 and 22, 2025, in Abuja and the state office, respectively.

Ngene's journey to reclaim his seat has been tumultuous, with his victory in the 2023 election being nullified by a tribunal.
