Bye-Election: Matawalle’s Ex-Aide Defeats Zamfara Governor As INEC Releases Breakdown of Results

In the bye-election for the South State Constituency in Zamfara, Kamilu Sa'idu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) emerged victorious, defeating Governor Dauda Lawal of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced Sa'idu as the winner after he polled the highest votes in the supplementary election, with PDP's Muhammad Lawal Kurya coming in second.

Sa'idu, a former special adviser to Bello Matawalle, secured a total of votes across the constituency, dealing a blow to Governor Lawal's administration, which has been criticized for incompetence and escalating insecurity. This defeat marks a historic low for Lawal, who is the first governor to lose a PDP stronghold in the state.
