Al Ahly SC Considers Withdrawal from CAF Confederation Cup

Al Ahly SC, an Egyptian football club based in Cairo, is contemplating pulling out of the CAF Confederation Cup. This decision comes as the club finishes third in the Egyptian Premier League, with the season ending on May 20, 2026.

Al Ahly SC is currently battling for a top-two finish to secure qualification for the CAF Champions League. Club officials have expressed reluctance to participate in Africa's secondary club competition, citing that it does not align with the club's stature and ambitions.

Despite this stance, Al Ahly SC remains open to proposals for an African Football League competition, which CAF is set to launch in 2023. This league aims to create a premier continental club competition involving Africa's elite teams, although the tournament is not scheduled to take place in 2024-2025 due to scheduling and financial challenges.
