CAF Scraps CHAN Tournament, Plans Launch of African Nations League

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially ended the African Nations Championship (CHAN) tournament, citing its unsuitability in its present form. CAF President Patrice Motsepe announced the decision during a press conference, stating that CHAN will be replaced by a new annual competition, the African Nations League.

The CHAN tournament, which showcased talent from local leagues across Africa, was first launched in 2009. The last edition was held in August, co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

The new African Nations League is expected to better align with CAF's vision for the long-term development of African football. Notable past winners of the CHAN tournament include Ivory Coast, DR Congo, Tunisia, Libya, and Morocco.

CAF is set to announce the structure of the African Nations League in the near future.
