Cameroon Eliminates Super Falcons from WAFCON 2023

In the WAFCON quarter-finals, Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses defeated Nigeria's Super Falcons 1-0, effectively ending Nigeria's title defense. Myriam Maéva Nyadjou Wamen scored the only goal of the match in the 19th minute at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium.

Following the goal, Nigeria dominated much of the first half and continued to apply pressure in the second half, creating several opportunities but failing to equalize. Cameroon’s goalkeeper made a crucial save to maintain their lead.

The victory allowed Cameroon to advance to the semi-finals, where they will face Morocco, who defeated South Africa 2-1. This loss for Nigeria not only ended their defense of the WAFCON title but also meant they would miss out on one of the four automatic qualification spots for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil, a significant setback for the team that had entered the tournament as defending champions.
