Super Falcons Eliminated from WAFCON 2026 by Cameroon

Nigeria’s Super Falcons were knocked out of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations by Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses, suffering a 1-0 defeat in the quarterfinal held in Casablanca. The loss denied Nigeria the opportunity to defend their title and pursue an 11th African championship.

Myriam Maéva Nyadjou scored the decisive goal for Cameroon with a powerful set-piece shot that left Nigerian goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie unable to respond. Despite Nigeria's attempts to equalize, including efforts from Rasheedat Ajibade and Jennifer Echegini, they could not break through Cameroon’s organized defense and goalkeeper Michaely Bihina, who was named Player of the Match.

This defeat complicates Nigeria's chances of qualifying for the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil 2027, as they must now navigate the African Playoff to secure one of the two available slots for the FIFA Intercontinental Playoff Tournament scheduled for February next year.
