Super Falcons' Path to 2027 World Cup Qualification

Nigeria's Super Falcons faced a setback in their quest to defend their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations title after losing 1-0 to Cameroon in the quarter-finals. However, this defeat does not eliminate their chances of qualifying for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The 2026 WAFCON serves as Africa's qualifying tournament, where the four semi-finalists will secure direct spots for the World Cup in Brazil. The Super Falcons, along with the other three quarter-final losers, will enter an African play-off for two additional World Cup spots.

Nigeria must win this play-off match to keep their qualification hopes alive. The outcome of the remaining WAFCON quarter-final will determine the teams joining Nigeria in the play-off.

The intercontinental tournament, featuring ten teams, will occur in two phases, with the first phase scheduled for November and December 2026, and the final phase in February 2027. Nigeria must win its knockout pathway to secure a place at the 2027 World Cup.
