CAN Condemns Ekiti Church Attack, Urges Victim Rescue

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) condemned a recent attack on a church gathering in Ekiti State, where gunmen reportedly killed a pastor and abducted several worshippers during an open-air crusade. The association expressed shock at the incident and emphasized the need for swift action to rescue the abducted individuals.

In a statement released on Wednesday, CAN's president highlighted the attack as part of a disturbing pattern of rising insecurity across Nigeria, referencing a similar incident in Yagba West Local Government Area, Kogi State, where gunmen abducted residents, including clergy and family members. The association reiterated that the protection of lives and property is the primary responsibility of the government and urged security agencies to act decisively and transparently to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure the safe release of the victims.

CAN also warned against normalizing attacks on places of worship, which should remain sanctuaries, and called for improved security measures across Nigeria.
